Kids First Boost
In a collaborative partnership with Help Me Grow - Brighter Futures in Montgomery County, this program was developed to achieve the following goals:
- Identify young children who may be at risk of having a developmental delay
- Provide technical assistance in accommodating children with special needs in community child care options
- Serve as an educational resource to child care providers and families
- Teacher/Staff training
What We Look For . . . Kids First Boost is a program designed to identify children from birth through five years who have or are at risk of having a developmental delay. A developmental delay is identified when a child’s motor skills, language skills, cognitive, social/emotional and/or self-help skills are developing at a much slower rate than his/her peers. For example, a child who may have trouble walking, talking, hearing, or interacting with peers may have a developmental delay.
What We Do . . .
- We conduct developmental screenings in preschools, day care centers, and family home care environments for children, birth through five years of age.
- We also offer in-service training for child care providers and parents on a variety of topics related to young children.
- We provide programmatic support/education to child care providers regarding the inclusion of children with special needs.
- We provide resource assistance.
Why We Care . . . We know that early screening means early identification of children exhibiting development delays. Early intervention -- parental support, therapy services, and special programming -- may reduce the need for special education services in later years.
