Assessment Services

  • Facility-Based Vocational Evaluation
    • Assessments are conducted at Goodwill’s Kuntz Rd. facility, and provide a customer with vocational direction by identifying vocational strengths, limitations, interests, aptitudes and work behaviors.  Each Vocational Evaluation can include a situational work assessment to further measure work behaviors and task proficiency.  Recommendations for training and placement are included in a summary staffing and comprehensive vocational evaluation report.  Program length and focus are tailored to meet the needs of the customer.  Contact:  Mindy Baker, Ext 315
  • Community Based Vocational Testing
    • A comprehensive vocational evaluation is based in the community.  Testing generally takes place over a one to two-day period, followed by a summary staffing and a comprehensive report.  Contact:  Mindy Baker, Ext 315
  • Community Based Work Assessment
    • Each receives a genuine work experience that is closely supervised by a job coach.  Community Based Work Assessment sites are developed within local businesses that offer occupations within the customer’s vocational interest area.  The assessment usually takes place during a two-week period (20 hours/week) to determine the customer’s proficiency level in a specific work setting.  This program provides job coaching, report, staffing, and wages for the customer.  Contact:  Mindy Baker, Ext 315
  • Career Analysis
    • Job shadowing and informational interviewing are used to assist the customer in identifying specific vocational goals.  Labor markets are analyzed and web searches are conducted to determine the feasibility of career choices.  The Lifestep computer software system assists in the occupational research process and matches transferable skills and physical capacities with feasible job options.  Each customer is required to take an active role in the career exploration process.  An hourly charge only applies to time spent working directly with staff.  All work performed independently in job shadowing experiences is free of charge.   • Site Development
    • Hourly placement services to establish sites for job shadowing and community based work assessments.  Contact:  Mindy Baker, Ext 315
  • Career Readiness Workshop
    • An interactive seminar in which you and other ORSC participants engage in learning activities related to the following areas:  Understanding the Roles and Expectations of ORSC and Other Rehabilitation Agencies; Developing Career Choices; Understanding your Benefits; Employer Expectations; the Americans with Disabilities Act; Rehabilitation Technology and Accommodations; Decision Making; Problem Solving; and Preparing to Get a Job.  Contact:  Mindy Baker, Ext 315

Skills Training Services

  • Work Training and Personal Adjustment
    • Work Training is designed to serve those individuals who require assistance in gaining a better understanding of the meaning, value, and demands of work.  The program goal is to acquaint customers with work habits, abilities, and skills that will enhance their vocational readiness. The focus of the Work Training program is placed on the development of general work skills, rate of production, and work quality. Individual program objectives are determined by using an interdisciplinary team approach.  Training objectives may target a customer’s ability to improve their rate of production, work quality, and/or work-readiness. Program customers earn a piece-rate wage for the assembly work they accomplish and minimum wage for other tasks.  Contact:  Tom Craemer, Ext 579
  • Janitorial Training
    • While participating in this program, a customer has the opportunity to get paid while gaining experience and skills that are necessary to perform entry-level janitorial or housekeeping tasks.  Hands-on training and instruction are offered to assist an individual in learning various cleaning techniques, appropriate work habits, proper care and use of janitorial equipment, appropriate selection and use of chemicals and cleaning agents, safety and emergency procedures.  In addition, formal personal adjustment instruction is provided in the areas of communication, positive thinking, assertiveness, decision-making, personal health, appearance/hygiene, money management, home care, mobility, community awareness, and citizenship.  Contact:  Tom Craemer, Ext 579
  • Job Seeking Skills Training
    • Training is designed to assist individuals in developing and maintaining skills for independent job seeking, interviewing, and following up.  Though the program is intended to serve those individuals who are beginning the placement process, an individual may participate in training at any time to improve their skills in communication, interviewing, and self-confidence.  Contact:  Ken Heaton, 539
  • Community Based Work Training/Supported Employment
    • On-the-job training in an individual or enclave setting with a community employer designed to meet your unique training needs.  Contact:  Karen Custer, Ext 305
  • Life Skills
    • Instruction is tailored to meet the individualized needs of a customer to enhance his or her employability and independence.  Training objectives are developed to increase levels of independence, improve self-confidence, and increase skills/behaviors.  Topics may include communication, positive thinking, assertiveness, decision-making, leisure activities, personal health, appearance, money management, meal preparation, home care, mobility, community awareness, and citizenship.  Contact:  Karen Custer, Ext. 305
  • Medical Front Office Training
    • Provide training to prepare participant for positions within the Front Desk Area of a Medical Office.  Contact: Kym Johnson, Ext 551 or Tom Craemer, Ext 579

  • Business Skills Training
    • The purpose of this program is to provide specialized vocational training that will assist customers in preparing for productive clerical careers. Training is offered using state-of-the-art computer software and clerical courses that allow the customer to learn at their own pace. Instruction in computer software applications may include Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, (Including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access) Internet and E-mail, and Microsoft FrontPage.   • Customer Service Training (Component of Business Skills Training)
    • Curriculum for this program was designed to prepare individuals for the “call center” environment as well as face-to-face interaction with customers. Customer service skills are developed through job shadowing, role-playing, simulated situations, and classroom lectures. The program covers instruction in computer applications, telephone etiquette, keyboarding, selling ability, good work ethic, problem-solving skills, proper communication skills, job seeking skills, and teamwork.   Contact: Tom Craemer, (937) 461-4800 Ext. 579 or Kym Johnson (937) 224-0564
       

Placement Services

  • Referral Based Placement Services
    • A performance-based placement program offers individualized services for one year.  Services are rendered through three phases: intake and development, placement, and 90-day retention.
    • The hourly plus placement program provides individualized assistance on a portal-to-portal basis.  Services can be provided for job development, job shadowing, job placement, and site development.  Job retention is also available.   Contact:  Cindy Dyer at 937-461-4800 Ext. 332
  • Community Based Placement Services
    • For individuals who do not have a referral/funding source, Goodwill/Easter Seals provides assistance in job seeking skills and placement.  Following participation in a job seeking skills class, persons are assigned an individual Placement Specialist who assists them in their job search.  Contact: Maria Wogoman (Miami County) 937-335-5568 and Sharmel Calbert (Montgomery County) 937-223-1234
  • Career Center at Elizabeth Place
    • Persons with disabilities are often unable to access critical job information over the Internet because they do not have the necessary computer access technology.  The Career Center at Elizabeth Place provides state-of-the-art computers and assistive technology to assist persons with disabilities identify job leads, send applications, resumes, and cover letters over the Internet, obtain career development information, and learn about available assistive technology.  Contact:  Ed Malahy, 937-223-1226

Job Coaching Services

  • Regular Job Coaching
    • Once a customer secures a job, he or she may benefit from the services of a job coach.  The role of a job coach is to assist an individual in learning his or her job tasks and becoming acclimated to a new work area.  Program objectives are developed to address the needs of an individual to ensure a positive relationship between employee and employer.  Travel training is also available to teach the customer how to safely travel to and from job sites via public transportation.  Contact:  Dan Bertke, Ext. 586
  • Specialized Job Coaching (Professional)
    • Job coaching is available for individuals who need help in a specialized field.  Services are provided by individuals with expertise in a specific field.  Contact:  Dan Bertke, Ext. 586
  • On-Site Job Analysis
    • A job analysis is a detailed step-by-step profile of a particular task/job.  Contact:  Dan Bertke, Ext. 586
  • Travel Training
    • This service instructs individuals in the use of public transportation systems.  Contact:  Dan Bertke, Ext. 586

Educational/Academic Services

  • Educational Enhancement (EEC)
    • The purpose of the Educational Enhancement Center is to assist customers in achieving GED’s and/or to enhance general basic academic skills for improvement of one’s vocational options. The Educational Enhancement program provides individualized academic training that is designed to assist customers in preparing for productive careers and offers the community employees that have established general educational skills needed by employers.
